This location sells one of the best pu-tarts. I usually come here after visiting Kim Ky. Their pu-tarts taste crunchy on the outside & soft in the center. The price is really affordable for the pu-tarts too! They blocked the entrance due to COVID, so Service here can be slow if there's a line.
One of my favorite bakeries to get Portuguese egg tarts! I put a lot of my family and friends onto the egg tarts here and they all love it as much as I do. The egg tarts are made with a creamy filling while the layers of crust is crispy, I highly recommend eating it when it's warm, it tastes so good! Phu's also sells various bakery items, including sponge cakes, they're so soft and fluffy! I love supporting this local bakery. Keep in mind, they don't allow customers to walk into the store, they have a table outside where you can order and pay and they'll bring out your goodies to you. Can't wait to get more egg tarts next time!
This bakery's po tarts give Jim's a run for their money. Just slightly less sweet. There's no bakery to go into. You have to peer at the windows and ask the cashier to pack stuff for you.
This review is strictly for egg tarts only. I read an article about the top 10 egg tarts in Los Angeles, and Phu's bakery made it to the list. It is near where I am, so I decided to give it a try. Indeed, the egg tarts did not disappoint. They are amazing. The crust is crispy and delicious, and the egg part in the middle is fresh and tasty. They were still warm when I got them. You won't be able to go into the store, though. You'll need to line up outside and wait for your turn to purchase.
This is my favorite place for egg custard tarts. Their custard is a well balanced mixture. Other places have a flour-y taste to the custard or it's too overpowering sweet with a lot of sugar. Some places even have a really egg-y taste to it. I mainly come here for their egg tarts and the mixture is perfect. No flour, egg, over sweetened after taste. The crust doesnt crumble upon touch and it's the perfect thickness. Not so thick that it tastes flour-y and flaky. Not so thin that it just tastes like dough. The crust has a slight crisp outer layer that holds up the tart structure. But it's not thick, when you bite into it, the crust does not overpower the flavor of the custard. Ive been on the hunt for the perfect egg tart for the last 20 years and I can say I finally found a place that makes it just right. This place was introduced to me by my aunt. Now my parents and my whole family is obsessed with the egg tarts from here. When we bring this to family parties, there's nothing left over. I definitely recommend this place. I went around 3pm and they werent sold out yet. I hope this place stays around forever so we can continue getting egg tarts from here. They make it 10x better than all the dim sum places and cafes in the whole 626 area.
Came around 3 in the afternoon. Got half a dozen Portuguese tarts ($10.51), and it was still fresh and hot. The crust was flaky, and the tart itself was a good size. I'd come again just for the Portuguese tarts! Cheaper than other places, but still yummy and fresh. I also tried their wife cake and pork sung bun, but it was mediocre. I wouldn't buy it again. P.s. you can only order thru the door. All the items are on display by the window, and they have a $20 minimum for credit card.
Got here right when they opened and these Portuguese egg tarts were warm and flaky You can't go in a browse around they have someone in the front that just takes your order and you wait. Now lets get into these egg tarts, gives me a flavor of a soft flan, its creamy and has the egg taste but not too sweet. It's good and once I had it I been thinking of grabbing more the next day. Great thing to take to a gathering or a gift.
Phu's bakery is one of two bakeries in the area that I love going to for Portuguese egg tarts. I always call ahead to make sure they aren't sold out before I head over. Super easy finding parking since they share a big parking lot with the other shops in the plaza. They don't allow you to go into the store so all transactions are done at the door. I got 6 Portuguese egg tarts for $10.51, which is quite a steal. They were still warm in the box when I got them. I noticed they changed the recipe a bit because the crust tastes denser compared to before. I do like how the filling isn't very sweet though. They have a small menu taped to the window, but prices aren't listed on it.
My second favorite PORTUGUESE EGG TARTS ! This place is comparable to Jim's Bakery in Monterey Park, but on the less sweeter side and for like 40 cent less ! Perfect for those family gatherings (them aunties & uncles who don't like sweet things). I usually call in for my order since I always order dozens and they have it ready within the hour. There are times where I didn't have time to call and just walk up and only have to wait like 15-20 mins for a hot batch that just came out. Story time: while I'm waiting for my order to be ready, I went to the sugar cane store to order some drinks to kill time. The owner there told me the owner of Phu use to work at Jim's lol. No wonder why like both Portuguese Egg Tarts! Overall, give this place a try !
